Devil's Den State Park

Depression-era park cabins, restored.

Devil's Den State Park sits on about 2,200 acres of the Boston Mountains near West Fork in Washington County. It was established in 1933 and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933 and 1942 from native stone and timber, and the whole park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1994. The park keeps 26 cabins, 17 of them full service.

The current work restores the Depression-era cabins: exterior paint removed and replaced with stain, bead-board ceilings repaired, interiors brought up to today's standard while the CCC character is kept. The restoration is a partnership between Arkansas State Parks, River Ridge Builders, and Covenant Commercial Construction, and it is expected to guide how historic structures are restored at other Arkansas state parks.
